For some odd reason, you glue one of the return roller mounts to the sides, but the other, identical, mounts, are molded in place. The hull sides and floor are of the glue together type with the suspension molded in place. On one hand this makes for easy, quick, assembly, but also limits what you can do with the model, and cuts down on the three dimensional look somewhat. If you look closely, you will see that the sides of the gun cradle are molded integrally with the elevation pistons, their sleeves and brackets. The level of detail here is generally good, but everything is grossly simplified. The gun barrel is in one piece, but the muzzle brake is in halves. There is a small bag with two vinyl caps to hold the drive sprockets in place. I suppose it is to keep the weights from damaging the kit, but they are glued into the bottom of the box. I like this idea as the weights give the small models some heft. Oddly, one or both of these vehicles are duplicated on the Peddinghaus sheets, so that reduces your options for aftermarket decals.įor the last few years, Tamiya has been giving metal weights in their 1/48 kits instead of the cast metal chassis in the old ones. I saw that Peddinghaus has at least two more 1/48 Nashorn decal sheets available. The decal sheet is adequate enough if you want to model either of these specific vehicles. The other is in the typical three tone camouflage. Tamiya provides decals for two rather well known vehicles including one in a winter white-wash. Being longer than the Panzer IV, the track had more links. The Nashorn was built off the Geschutzwagen III/IV chassis, which was a hybrid design using a lengthened Panzer IV hull and suspension, with a Panzer III transmission and drive sprockets.
